ICT Infrastructure & Security Innovation Manager

We're retained to find an exceptional ICT Infrastructure & Security Innovation Manager for Securex, based in East Africa.

About the Role

Securex is looking for a trusted, well-rounded ICT leader to take ownership of its internal infrastructure, enterprise networks, cybersecurity controls, end-user technology and technology partners across Kenya and Uganda.

The immediate opportunity is to strengthen the organisation’s cybersecurity environment through Data Loss Prevention, endpoint security, XDR, mobile-device management, access controls, backups, disaster recovery and business continuity. You will also help Securex build reliable command-centre and remote-monitoring infrastructure.

This is primarily an internal ICT leadership role. It is not a software-development or broad digital-transformation position. The innovation element is practical: researching, evaluating and piloting security technologies that could improve Securex’s operations and client security solutions.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

1. Build Reliable ICT Infrastructure and Networks

• Own Securex’s networks, servers, cloud services, Microsoft 365 environment, Active Directory, firewalls, VPNs, wireless networks and connectivity.
• Maintain the availability, performance and security of systems across offices, branches and command centres.
• Manage routing, switching, VLANs, internet load balancing and network access across different operational environments.
• Maintain the ICT roadmap, including infrastructure upgrades, backups, disaster recovery and business-continuity plans.
• Ensure technical configurations, infrastructure diagrams and operating procedures are properly documented.

2. Strengthen Cybersecurity and Data Protection

• Lead the implementation and ongoing management of Data Loss Prevention, XDR, endpoint security and mobile-device management controls.
• Establish and enforce policies covering access permissions, device security, data storage, file sharing and acceptable technology use.
• Monitor security alerts, policy violations, suspicious activity and unauthorised access, taking appropriate corrective action.
• Manage firewall rules, vulnerability assessments, penetration testing and cybersecurity incident response.
• Strengthen the organisation’s foundations for future ISO 27001 readiness and increasing client data-protection requirements.

3. Lead ICT Operations and End-User Technology

• Oversee laptops, desktops, mobile devices, radios, routers, printers, SIM cards, software licences and other ICT assets.
• Maintain accurate asset registers and ensure equipment is functional, secure, properly assigned and appropriately maintained.
• Oversee employee onboarding and offboarding, including devices, accounts, permissions and access removal.
• Lead the ICT support team and ensure incidents and service requests are logged, escalated and resolved effectively.
• Create a responsive support environment for a geographically dispersed workforce of more than 5,000 employees.

4. Manage Vendors, Projects and Governance

• Act as Securex’s primary technical interface with infrastructure, cybersecurity, software and hardware providers.
• Hold vendors accountable for service levels, system availability, maintenance schedules, third-party access and risk remediation.
• Confirm that externally implemented solutions meet Securex’s technical, security and operational requirements.
• Manage ICT projects, budgets, procurement input, technical documentation and management reporting.
• Provide leadership with clear recommendations on ICT risks, investment priorities and technology decisions.

5. Shape Security Technology and Command-Centre Capability

• Support the evaluation and piloting of technologies relating to surveillance, alarms, access control, tracking, IoT, remote monitoring and command-and-control systems.
• Assess potential solutions for reliability, cybersecurity, integration, operational suitability and commercial viability.
• Support the design of secure ICT infrastructure for command centres and connected client-security solutions.
• Work with the CTO, technical teams and external providers to configure and integrate selected technologies.
• Stay informed about developments in security technology and recommend solutions that create meaningful operational or client value.

How You Show Up

Your Strong Foundation

Experience

• At least seven years of experience across ICT infrastructure, enterprise networking and cybersecurity.
• Strong exposure to a hardware-heavy, multi-site or operationally demanding technology environment.
• Demonstrable experience implementing or managing cybersecurity controls, including Data Loss Prevention, endpoint security, access management or related policies.
• Experience managing ICT assets, software licences, end-user support and external technology providers.
• Previous exposure to command centres, CCTV, access control, alarms, tracking or remote-monitoring technology would be advantageous, but is not essential.
• Or—you may not have held every expected title, but you have operated in high-stakes, high-velocity environments where system reliability, security and sound judgement mattered.

Execution

• You can configure, manage or confidently oversee routers, switches, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, wireless networks and internet connectivity.
• You understand how to translate security requirements into practical policies, permissions, alerts and technical controls.
• You have managed incidents, infrastructure projects, vendors and competing operational priorities.
• You are comfortable reviewing implementation work and confirming that third-party providers have delivered the expected outcome.
• You can develop policies, technical documentation, disaster-recovery plans and management reports.

Communication and Leadership

• You can communicate technical issues clearly to leadership, employees, vendors and non-technical stakeholders.
• You bring maturity, integrity and strong business judgement.
• You can lead a small internal ICT team while coordinating multiple specialist providers.
• You are organised, responsive and comfortable taking responsibility for business-critical systems.

Tools and Technical Environment

Strong working knowledge of several of the following is expected:

• Microsoft 365, Active Directory, OneDrive and Microsoft-based security controls.
• Cloud services, servers, storage, backups and virtualisation.
• Routers, switches, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs and wireless networks.
• Sophos or comparable firewall and cybersecurity platforms.
• Data Loss Prevention, XDR, endpoint security and mobile-device management.
• ICT asset-management, support-ticketing and monitoring tools.

A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related field is expected. Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Microsoft, Azure, Fortinet, VMware, ITIL or recognised cybersecurity qualifications would be advantageous. CCNA-level networking capability is particularly important.

This Role Is Not for You If…

• Your experience is mainly in software development, product management or digital transformation, with limited infrastructure and networking depth.
• You have only managed basic user-support activities and have not worked with enterprise networks or cybersecurity controls.
• You prefer highly specialised roles where another team owns networking, security, infrastructure, vendors and end-user technology.
• You are comfortable delegating everything to vendors without understanding or challenging their technical work.
• You struggle to communicate technical issues in a practical, business-friendly way.
• You are uncomfortable being personally accountable for sensitive access, security policies and critical systems.
