We're retained to find an exceptional Security Manager for Securex, based in Kenya.
About the Role
The Security Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure the safety and security of all
conservancy assets, staff, and visitors, while fostering strong, trust-based relationships with surrounding local
communities. The Security Manager is responsible for conservation within the Ol Lentille Conservancy. The role requires a culturally grounded, intelligence-led security approach that balances firmness, fairness, and collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve an integrated conservancy security strategy aligned with operational and community realities.
- Lead and mentor all security personnel, ensuring high standards of professionalism, discipline, integrity, and accountability.
- Conduct regular patrols for risk assessments and vulnerability mapping across the conservancy.
- Act on local intelligence gathered through close engagement with community members, elders, and other informal networks.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the conservancy and neighbouring communities on security-related matters, including building trust and de-escalation of tensions.
- Proactively manage and resolve misunderstandings related to human-wildlife interactions, grazing access, and livestock movement.
- Act as the point of contact for coordination with state security agencies including National Police Service, KWS, and County Security Committees to ensure effective response and legal compliance.
- Ensure all security operations uphold Kenyan law, human rights standards, and culturally appropriate conduct.
- Provide guidance and oversee incident response, investigations, reporting, and follow-up actions, ensuring lessons are learned and integrated into future planning.
- Support security through effective deployment of personnel, technology, and community-based early warning systems.
- Support emergency preparedness and crisis management.
- Oversee maintenance of accurate records, reports, and security data to inform management decisions and risk mitigation strategies.
- Advise conservancy management on emerging security risks, community dynamics, and opportunities for collaboration to enhance long-term stability.
- Champion a preventive, intelligence-led security culture rather than reactive enforcement.
Requirements
- Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in security leadership, preferably within conservancies, large-scale agriculture, or remote rural operations.
- Ex-military or disciplined services background (KDF, KWS, Administration Police, or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working closely with pastoralist or rural communities in Kenya.
Nice to Haves
- Fluency in Maa language is mandatory. Kiswahili and English are also required.
- Proven leadership, command presence, and sound judgment under pressure.
- Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and community engagement skills.
- High ethical standards, discretion, and respect for cultural norms.
- Ability to operate effectively in remote and challenging environments.
